In 1991, a group of individuals noticed that very few youth were playing football in the town of Brunswick. They decided to do something about it and started a youth sports program for middle school aged children. The Brunswick Youth Football League was founded.
Its original purpose was to develop a youth football program which might benefit the community by giving young athletes something positive to do. As time went on, the organization grew in size and scope, with the inclusion of younger players, surrounding communities and a cheering program, becoming what it is today: The Brunswick Area Youth Football League.
Through the years, it has become clear that football is a means to an end rather than an end in itself. BAYFL’s primary focus is in developing character and teaching sportsmanship. Football and cheering are merely the activities used to teach these values.
